A 76-year-old British national working with the broadcasting crew for the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) season was found dead in his room at the Trident Hotel, police said on Tuesday. The deceased has been identified as Ian Williams Langford, a senior broadcast engineer who was part of the league’s television production team. According to police, Langford was discovered unresponsive in his hotel room by staff members, who alerted authorities immediately.
An accidental death report (ADR) has been registered at the Marine Drive Police Station, and officials have begun an investigation to determine the exact cause of death. Following the incident, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) issued a statement expressing grief over Langford’s passing.
“The IPL Governing Council and all stakeholders involved express their deepest condolences on the untimely demise of Mr. Ian Williams Langford, a dedicated broadcast engineer who was an integral part of our broadcast operations. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends back home,” the statement said.
The board also assured that the league would extend full support to Langford’s family during the difficult time. “The IPL is committed to providing all necessary support and assistance to Mr. Langford’s family. The health, safety and overall security of every member involved in the smooth functioning of the IPL continues to remain of utmost importance,” it added. Police officials said further details would emerge after preliminary inquiries and medical examination reports are completed.
