India national cricket team fast bowler Arshdeep Singh has been fined 15 per cent of his match fee for breaching the International Cricket Council’s code of conduct during the final of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026 against New Zealand national cricket team. The incident occurred during the final at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday, March 8,2026.
The ICC said Arshdeep admitted to a Level 1 offence under Article 2.9 of the code of conduct, which relates to throwing a ball or any item of cricket equipment at or near a player in an inappropriate or dangerous manner during an international match.
The 26-year-old pacer threw the ball aggressively toward New Zealand batter Daryl Mitchell after fielding it in the 11th over of the innings. The throw struck Mitchell on the pads.
One demerit point was also added to Arshdeep’s disciplinary record. It was his first offence in a 24-month period.
Match referee Andy Pycroft of the Emirates ICC Elite Panel imposed the sanction after Arshdeep accepted the charge. Because he admitted the offence, there was no need for a formal hearing.
Television footage later showed Mitchell and Arshdeep shaking hands at the end of the over.
India went on to defeat New Zealand by 96 runs to secure a record third T20 World Cup title.
Under ICC regulations, a Level 1 breach carries a minimum penalty of an official reprimand and a maximum penalty of 50 per cent of a player’s match fee, along with one or two demerit points.
If a player accumulates four or more demerit points within a 24-month period, those points are converted into suspension points that can lead to a ban.
