Zimbabwe National Cricket Team vs Australia National Cricket Team Match Scorecard: Australia’s hopes of reaching the Super 8s at the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 are hanging in the balance after a stunning 23-run defeat to Zimbabwe at R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo on Friday, February 13, 2026. The loss in Match 19 has thrown Group B wide open and left the 2021 champions with no margin for error in their remaining fixtures.  With Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe both unbeaten after two games and Sri Lanka leading the table on net run rate, Australia must now navigate a narrow path to qualify for the Super 8s.

Australia’s most straightforward route is to win their remaining two group matches against Sri Lanka and Oman. Even then, victory alone may not be sufficient. Net run rate could prove decisive, meaning Australia may need convincing wins to improve their position in the standings.

Another possible outcome could see Australia, Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe finish level on points. If Australia defeat Sri Lanka, Sri Lanka beat Zimbabwe and Zimbabwe overcome Ireland, the three teams would be tied, with qualification determined by net run rate. In that scenario, Australia’s margin of victory — and defeat — will be critical.

There is also a pathway in which both Australia and Zimbabwe defeat Sri Lanka. If that happens, Australia and Zimbabwe would advance, while the co-hosts would be eliminated. But that scenario still hinges on Australia taking maximum points from their remaining fixtures.

Complicating matters are Australia’s injury concerns. Fast bowlers Josh Hazlewood and Pat Cummins are already sidelined, while regular captain Mitchell Marsh has missed the opening matches due to a testicular bleeding injury. Steve Smith has been called in as cover, though there has been no official confirmation on whether Marsh will return later in the tournament.

After losing to Zimbabwe, Australia can’t guarantee a spot in the Super 8s on their own. They must win against Sri Lanka and Oman and also rely on other results and net run rate to have a chance to advance.

Scorecard: Zimbabwe 169/2 in 20 overs (Brian Bennett 64*, Tadiwanashe Marumani 35, Ryan Burl 35) beat Australia 146 in 19.3 overs (Matt Renshaw 65, Glenn Maxwell 31; Blessing Muzarabani 4-17, Brad Evans 3-23) by 23 runs
