IND vs BAN Champions Trophy 2025: Axar Patel missed a chance to take a hat-trick against Bangladesh in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 after Rohit Sharma dropped a catch in the slips.
The left-arm spinner found the edge of Jaker Ali’s bat during the ninth over, but the ball slipped through Rohit's hands at an ideal height. It bounced off his thigh before hitting the ground as he failed to hold on.
Rohit pounded his hand on the turf in frustration and apologized to Axar after the missed opportunity. Axar had earlier dismissed Tanzid Hasan and Mushfiqur Rahim in successive deliveries before being denied a hat-trick.
Axar's double strike left Bangladesh struggling at 35 for five. Mohammed Shami and Harshit Rana had earlier combined to take the first three wickets, putting India in a commanding position.
Earlier, Bangladesh won the toss and elected to bat. Skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto said his team wants to put runs on the board and take advantage of the batting conditions. Indian captain Rohit Sharma mentioned he would have preferred to bowl first, considering the conditions under lights.
