Bangladesh national cricket team registered a dominant eight-wicket victory over Pakistan national cricket team in the opening match of the three-game ODI series at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium on Wednesday, March 11, 2026. Led by Mehidy Hasan Miraz, the hosts took a 1-0 lead in the bilateral series after comfortably chasing a modest target of 115 runs. Opener Tanzid Hasan Tamim anchored the chase with an unbeaten 67 off 42 balls, smashing seven fours and five sixes as Bangladesh reached the target in just 15.1 overs.
Najmul Hossain Shanto supported him with a brisk 27 off 33 deliveries, hitting five boundaries. Pakistan captain Shaheen Shah Afridi dismissed Saif Hassan early, while Mohammad Wasim Jr removed Shanto, but Bangladesh cruised to victory without further trouble.
Earlier, Bangladesh's bowling attack, led by young pacer Nahid Rana, dismantled Pakistan’s batting lineup.
Rana produced a sensational spell, finishing with figures of 5 for 24 to claim his maiden five-wicket haul in ODIs.
After Bangladesh opted to bowl first, Pakistan began their innings with debutants Sahibzada Farhan and Maaz Sadaqat. The pair added 41 runs for the opening wicket before Rana struck in the 10th over, dismissing Farhan for 27 off 38 balls.
Another debutant, Shamyl Hussain, managed just four runs before Rana removed him in his next over. Sadaqat followed soon after, scoring 18 off 28 balls before holing out to Saif Hassan.
Pakistan’s middle order failed to recover as Mohammad Rizwan scored only 10 before being caught behind off Rana. Salman Ali Agha was dismissed in Rana’s next over as the pacer completed his five-wicket haul inside 18 overs.
Wickets continued to tumble as Pakistan struggled to build partnerships. Debutant Abdul Samad was dismissed for a duck, while Afridi briefly counterattacked with a boundary before being trapped LBW by Miraz.
Taskin Ahmed removed Mohammad Wasim Jr for 0, and Mustafizur Rahman claimed the final wicket of Faheem Ashraf.
Ashraf top-scored for Pakistan with 32 runs and shared a 32-run last-wicket partnership with Abrar Ahmed to push Pakistan past the 100-run mark.
Pakistan were eventually bowled out for 114 in 30.4 overs.
Miraz supported the bowling effort with three wickets, but Rana’s match-winning spell earned him the Player of the Match award.
The second ODI between Bangladesh and Pakistan will be played at the same venue in Dhaka on Friday.
