IPL Auction 2026: Australia all rounder Cameron Green became the most expensive overseas player in IPL auction history on Tuesday after being sold to Kolkata Knight Riders for Rs 25.20 crore at the IPL 2026 auction. Green’s name came up early in the auction and triggered a fierce bidding battle. Rajasthan Royals and Mumbai Indians opened the contest before Kolkata Knight Riders entered. The fight later narrowed to KKR and Rajasthan Royals as the price climbed rapidly.
Chennai Super Kings joined the bidding at a later stage but the contest soon turned into a direct duel with KKR. As the amount crossed Rs 20 crore Green moved closer to breaking the existing record for an overseas player. Kolkata Knight Riders stayed aggressive throughout and eventually outbid CSK. The franchise had the biggest purse at the auction and used it to make a strong statement after a difficult previous season. The hammer finally fell at Rs 25.20 crore sealing a landmark deal.
Green has previous IPL experience with Mumbai Indians and Royal Challengers Bengaluru. He played for Mumbai Indians in the 2023 season where he scored 452 runs and took six wickets. In 2024 he turned out for Royal Challengers Bengaluru and added value with both bat and ball.
Kolkata Knight Riders will expect Green to play a key role with his power hitting and seam bowling as they look to strengthen their squad for the IPL 2026 season.
