Mumbai Indians (MI) vs Chennai Super Kings (CSK) IPL 2026 Match: The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) paid tribute to pacer Mukesh Choudhary’s mother by wearing black armbands during the match 33 of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 against Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium on Thursday, April 23, 2026. According to reports, Mukesh’s mother, Prema Devi, passed away on Tuesday after a prolonged illness. She was undergoing treatment at Mumbai’s Tata Hospital.

The franchise expressed its condolences in an official statement earlier in the day. “The CSK family mourns the passing of Mukesh Choudhary’s mother. We stand with Mukesh and his family, keeping them in our thoughts and prayers during this incredibly difficult time,” CSK said in a post on social media.

The left-arm seamer had briefly left the squad following CSK’s clash against Sunrisers Hyderabad on April 18 to return to his hometown in Bhilwara, Rajasthan. He performed the final rites alongside his elder brother, Dr. Rajesh Choudhary, before rejoining the team ahead of the Mumbai fixture.

On field, Mumbai Indians captain Hardik Pandya won the toss and elected to bowl first against CSK. MI named an unchanged playing XI, meaning Rohit Sharma missed his third consecutive match due to a hamstring injury.

CSK, meanwhile, continued to be without MS Dhoni, who is yet to feature in IPL 2026. The 44-year-old wicketkeeper-batter is still recovering from a calf strain sustained during the pre-season and has not received full medical clearance.

Pitch Conditions

The surface at Wankhede is expected to favour batters, with experts suggesting that a total in the range of 200–210 could be competitive. There is a light grass covering, offering some assistance to fast bowlers early on, particularly with the new ball.

However, dew is likely to play a role later in the evening, making chasing a preferred option — a factor that influenced Mumbai’s decision at the toss.
