Gujarat Titans secured their first win of IPL 2025 with a 36-run victory over Mumbai Indians at the Narendra Modi Stadium on Saturday. GT pacers Mohammed Siraj and Prasidh Krishna led a dominant bowling performance as they defended a 197-run target to hand MI their second consecutive defeat. Siraj struck twice in the powerplay, removing India captain Rohit Sharma and opener Ryan Rickelton to give GT an early advantage. Krishna tightened the grip in the middle and death overs, finishing with 2 for 18 in four overs. Kagiso Rabada and R Sai Kishore picked up a wicket each. Strike bowler Rashid Khan did not complete his four-over spell as GT remained in control throughout the innings.
Mumbai struggled to keep up with the required run rate despite a fighting knock from Suryakumar Yadav, who scored 48 off 28 balls with four sixes. Tilak Varma added 39 runs but took 36 balls. Captain Hardik Pandya, who came in during the 13th over, managed just 11 runs off 17 balls. Mitchell Santner and Naman Dhir scored 18 runs each in the final overs but could not prevent the defeat.
Earlier, GT openers set the platform after being put into bat. Sai Sudharsan led the charge with 63 off 41 balls, hitting four boundaries and two sixes. Captain Shubman Gill added 38 runs, forging a 78-run opening stand. Jos Buttler, batting at No. 3, contributed 39 runs. Mumbai pulled things back in the final overs, restricting GT from 179 for 3 in 18 overs to 196 for 8 at the end of their innings. Pandya was the pick of the bowlers, finishing with 2 for 29 in four overs. Gujarat Titans will next face Royal Challengers Bengaluru in Bengaluru on April 2. Mumbai Indians will look to bounce back when they host Kolkata Knight Riders on March 31.
