Punjab Kings have put together a well-rounded team for this season, and Shreyas Iyer and Ricky Ponting will try to change the Punjab Kings' fortunes this time around. After failing to receive the desired retention price at KKR, Iyer, the captain who won the IPL last year, put himself up for auction. Taking advantage of this, Punjab spent Rs 26.75 crore to acquire him and make him their new captain. Yuzvendra Chahal, Glenn Maxwell, Marcus Stoinis, Arshdeep Singh, and Marco Jansen are some of the interesting additions that PBKS made with Ponting at the auction table to give them a good chance of winning the championship this year.

However, the Gujarat Titans kept their core group from the last season, with Rashid Khan serving as their trump card and Shubman Gill heading the team. They made some astute moves at the auction table to assemble a potent bowling lineup by acquiring Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh Krishna, and Kagiso Rabada for the pace attack. Their batting lineup, which previously included players like Gill, Sai Sudharsan, Glenn Phillips, Shahrukh Khan, and Rahul Tewatia, would undoubtedly get more firepower with the addition of Jos Buttler.
