MS Dhoni on Retirement: Speculation around MS Dhoni’s Indian Premier League (IPL) future resurfaced ahead of the 2026 season after the former Chennai Super Kings (CSK) captain offered a subtle response about his retirement. Speaking at a fan event at the M. A. Chidambaram Stadium, Dhoni, 44, addressed the recurring question about how long he plans to continue playing in the league.

During an on-stage interaction, actor Sivakarthikeyan suggested that Dhoni could keep playing until the age of 60. Responding with a smile, Dhoni said, “It is very difficult. It is on the way down, not on the way up. But I will try,” drawing loud cheers from the crowd.

Chennai Super Kings will begin their IPL 2026 campaign against Rajasthan Royals on March 30 in Guwahati. Dhoni is expected to feature again for the five-time champions, though his exact role in the team remains a topic of debate.

The franchise has bolstered its squad ahead of the season, including the addition of wicketkeeper-batter Sanju Samson, leading to speculation over who will take up the gloves. Dhoni’s batting position has also been under scrutiny. In recent seasons, he has opted to bat lower down the order to allow younger players more opportunities in key situations.

There is also discussion about whether Dhoni could be used as an impact player to strengthen the batting lineup.

Despite ongoing retirement chatter, Dhoni’s presence continues to be central to Chennai Super Kings, both on and off the field, as fans eagerly await another season of the veteran cricketer in yellow.
