Bethell scored 105 off 48 balls, hitting eight fours and seven sixes in a counterattacking innings that kept England in the chase for a 254-run target. The 22-year-old recorded his maiden T20I century and the second-fastest hundred in T20 World Cup history.

He also equalled the record for the joint-fastest fifty in a T20 World Cup knockout match, reaching the milestone in 19 balls. However, England fell short, finishing at 246 for seven in 20 overs.

Bethell shared a key 77-run partnership with Will Jacks and targeted India’s spinners with aggressive strokeplay. He reached his hundred with a six off Hardik Pandya but was later run out while attempting a second run to retain the strike, effectively ending England’s hopes.

India won the semifinal and advanced to the final of the tournament, while England exited the competition.
