India vs England Semi Final 2026: India national cricket team and England national cricket team will face each other in the second semifinal of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026 at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Thursday, March 5, 2026. It will be the third consecutive edition where the two teams meet in the semifinals.
The last time the two sides met in a T20 World Cup semifinal was during the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2024 at the Providence Stadium in Georgetown, Guyana, where India registered a dominant 68-run victory.
Batting first in a rain-affected match, India posted 171 for seven in 20 overs. Captain Rohit Sharma led from the front with 57 runs off 39 balls. Suryakumar Yadav supported him with 47 runs off 36 deliveries, while Hardik Pandya added a quick 23 off 13 balls.
Ravindra Jadeja remained unbeaten on 17 off nine balls as India finished strongly in the final overs. Earlier, Virat Kohli was dismissed for nine and Rishabh Pant managed four runs.
Chasing 172, England started well with Jos Buttler and Phil Salt adding early runs. However, India’s spinners soon took control of the match.
Left-arm spinner Axar Patel produced a key spell of three for 23, dismissing Buttler, Moeen Ali and Jonny Bairstow. Wrist spinner Kuldeep Yadav also picked up three wickets for 19 runs as England struggled against spin on a slow surface.
Only Buttler (23) and Harry Brook (25) offered some resistance as England were bowled out for 103 in 16.4 overs.
The win helped India reach the final, where they later defeated South Africa national cricket team to win the T20 World Cup title.
The semifinal also marked a notable milestone for Rohit, who became the first Indian captain to lead the team into three ICC global finals within 12 months — the ICC World Test Championship 2023 Final, the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup 2023 and the T20 World Cup final in 2024.
