India National Cricket Team vs New Zealand National Cricket Team Match: Shreyas Iyer has returned to India’s T20I squad, while leg-spinner Ravi Bishnoi has also been recalled for the upcoming home series against New Zealand, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) said on Friday, January 16, 2026.

Iyer has been added to the squad for the first three T20Is as a replacement for Tilak Varma, who has been ruled out due to injury. Bishnoi replaces all-rounder Washington Sundar, who will miss the entire series.

Sundar suffered discomfort in his lower rib area while bowling during the first ODI against New Zealand at the BCA Stadium in Vadodara on January 11. He underwent scans and later consulted a specialist.

In a statement, the BCCI said Sundar has been diagnosed with a side strain and has been advised rest for a few days. He will then report to the BCCI Centre of Excellence for further management of his injury. As a result, he has been ruled out of the T20I series.
