A video circulating widely on social media shows a group of passionate cricket fans gathering outside the iconic Wankhede Stadium near Marine Drive in Mumbai, where they were seen symbolically signing a petition demanding that the final of the ICC T20 World Cup 2026 be shifted to the city. In the viral clip, several supporters enthusiastically participate in the activity, expressing their desire to see the grand finale played in Mumbai instead of the scheduled venue.
While the petition has no official standing and is not a formal demand to authorities, it reflects the emotions and sentiments of cricket lovers. Many fans say the initiative is simply a light-hearted way to voice their concerns and superstitions about the final being held at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, which some supporters jokingly refer to as carrying an “Ahmedabad curse” for India in crucial knockout matches.

As a result, airfares on the Mumbai–Ahmedabad route have reportedly increased by nearly 100 per cent, reflecting the massive rush among supporters eager to witness the final live at the stadium.
Under normal circumstances, flight tickets on this route usually begin at around ₹3,000, while last-minute bookings typically range between ₹5,000 and ₹6,000. However, for March 8, fares have climbed steeply, with ticket prices now ranging from ₹7,349 to ₹8,371 for departures from Mumbai and Navi Mumbai, highlighting the surge in demand ahead of the highly anticipated match.
