New Zealand National Cricket Team vs India National Cricket Team Match: India’s ace pacer Jasprit Bumrah was rested for the second T20 International against New Zealand at the Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh Stadium on Friday, January 23, 2026. Harshit Rana replaced Bumrah in the playing XI, while Kuldeep Yadav came in for injured all-rounder Axar Patel. India captain Suryakumar Yadav confirmed the changes at the toss. “We have two changes – Axar is missing out because he got hit in the last game. And Bumrah is resting tonight. So Harshit and Kuldeep come in,” he said.
Bumrah went wicketless in the opening T20I in Nagpur, conceding 29 runs in three overs. Harshit Rana, 24, who recently took six wickets in a three-match ODI series against New Zealand, will be tasked with leading India’s pace attack. Rana has taken seven wickets in six T20Is but has an economy rate of 10.17.
Bumrah was also rested during the ODI leg of the tour, where New Zealand secured a 2-1 series win — their first ODI series triumph in India. His is expected to return for the third and fourth T20Is. The third match of the series will be played in Guwahati on Sunday, January 25.
India won the toss and elected to bowl first.
