New Zealand National Cricket Team vs India National Cricket Team Match:  Defending champions India may be without premier fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah for their opening match of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 against the United States after he reportedly  fell ill on the morning of the game. According to the reports, the team management is monitoring his condition ahead of the Group A clash at the Wankhede Stadium. If Bumrah fails to recover in time, Mohammed Siraj is likely to replace him in the playing XI. Siraj was drafted into the squad as a replacement for Harshit Rana.

Bumrah’s illness adds to selection questions the team was already dealing with before the tournament opener. The think tank has been weighing its top-order options, especially with Sanju Samson struggling for form in recent outings.

There is a strong possibility that Ishan Kishan could open alongside Abhishek Sharma. Tilak Varma, who has returned to full fitness, is expected to slot in at No. 3. That combination could leave Samson out of the starting XI, although the management may still consider giving him another chance.

India’s likely XI against USA: Abhishek Sharma, Ishan Kishan (wk), Tilak Varma, Suryakumar Yadav (c), Hardik Pandya, Shivam Dube, Axar Patel, Arshdeep Singh, Kuldeep Yadav, Mohammed Siraj, Varun Chakravarthy.
