India National Cricket Team vs United States National Cricket Team Match: Jasprit Bumrah was ruled out of India’s opening match of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 against the United States at the Wankhede Stadium on Saturday due to illness. India captain Suryakumar Yadav confirmed Bumrah’s absence at the toss, saying the fast bowler was not well. “We have Washington Sundar missing out, Sanju Samson missing out. Unfortunately Jasprit Bumrah is not well so Mohammed Siraj is playing,” Suryakumar said.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India also issued a statement confirming Bumrah’s non-availability and said the team’s medical staff is closely monitoring his condition. "Jasprit Bumrah was unavailable for selection for India’s opening T20 World Cup fixture against the USA due to illness. The BCCI medical team is closely monitoring his condition," BCCI stated.
Bumrah last played a T20 international against New Zealand in Thiruvananthapuram, where he had his most expensive outing in the format, conceding 58 runs in four overs without taking a wicket. Despite that, India won the match by 46 runs and clinched the series 4-1. India will hope Bumrah recovers quickly as the tournament progresses.
The USA won the toss and chose to field first in front of a packed crowd at the Wankhede Stadium.
