India national cricket team captain Suryakumar Yadav won the toss and elected to bowl against the West Indies cricket team in Super 8 Group 1 match of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 at Eden Gardens in Kolkata on Sunday, March 1, 2026. India retained the same XI, while the West Indies made one change, bringing in Akeal Hosein in place of Brandon King.

Suryakumar Yadav said the decision was influenced by conditions at the venue, which has favored chasing teams. “The surface looks good. It has been a chasing ground. Wicket later on becomes even better. And also with a little bit of dew factor, I think chasing would be a better option. (Great venue to play this game) Absolutely. I mean, it’s already very wild. The crowd is in. Hopefully we can give them a good show tonight. (Mood in the dressing room) There will be tension. There will be nerves. But if there’s no pressure, there’s no fun. But the mood in the camp is good. I think we ticked all the boxes in the last game. And taking that positivity coming here in this game, I think it’ll be a good one,” SKY said.

West Indies captain Shai Hope said his side would also have preferred to bowl first but remained focused on consistency.

Both teams entered the contest with two points from two matches. South Africa has already secured a semifinal berth from the group and sits atop the standings. West Indies is second on net run rate, with India in third. The winner of Sunday’s match will advance to the semifinals alongside South Africa.
