Captain Harmanpreet Kaur said the decision to field first was based on pitch conditions. “Looking at the conditions, we just thought that bowling first is a better option for us. Our bowlers did a great job for us in the last game and hopefully today also they'll come with the same positive mindset,” she said. Kaur also marked a personal milestone, becoming the most capped player in women’s international cricket. “It's a great achievement for me. Hopefully I'll keep doing the hard work for the team and keep playing as much as I can,” she said.

Australia skipper Sophie Molineux acknowledged the team was off pace in the first T20I but said she was eager to get another opportunity to perform. “ were a little bit off, probably in all three departments (in the first T20I). Looking forward to get another crack at it tonight,” Molineux said. She confirmed there would be no changes to the Australian XI.
