India National Cricket Team vs Zimbabwe National Cricket Team Standings: India kept its semifinal hopes alive with a commanding 72-run win over Zimbabwe in a must-win Group 1 Super 8 match of ICC Men’s T20 World Cup at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Thursday, February 26, 2026. Half-centuries from Abhishek Sharma and Hardik Pandya powered India to 256 for 4, the highest total of this edition, before the bowlers sealed the win by restricting Zimbabwe to 184 for 6.

After Zimbabwe opted to bowl, Abhishek set the tone with a brisk 55 off 30 balls. The left-hander added 48 runs for the opening wicket with Sanju Samson (24). Ishan Kishan struck 38, while Suryakumar Yadav made 33 in a flurry of boundaries as India maintained its aggressive approach through the middle overs.

Pandya then took control at the death, hammering an unbeaten 50 off 23 balls. He found strong support from Tilak Varma, who smashed 44 not out from just 14 deliveries. The pair put on an unbroken 84-run stand off 31 balls to propel India past the 250 mark.

Chasing 257, Zimbabwe relied heavily on Brian Bennett, who finished unbeaten on 97. Despite his resistance, Zimbabwe never seriously threatened the target as wickets fell at regular intervals. India pacer Arshdeep Singh was the most successful bowler with 3 for 24, applying pressure in the middle overs.

For Zimbabwe, captain Sikandar Raza returned 1 for 29, while Richard Ngarava (1 for 62), Blessing Muzarabani (1 for 43) and Tinotenda Maposa (1 for 40) claimed a wicket each but were unable to contain India’s attacking lineup.

Brief scores:
India 256/4 in 20 overs (Abhishek Sharma 55, Tilak Varma 44*, Hardik Pandya 50*)
Zimbabwe 184/6 in 20 overs (Brian Bennett 97*; Arshdeep Singh 3/24)

With the win, India’s fate now rests on their final Super 8 match against West Indies at Eden Gardens on March 1. A victory will see the defending champions through to the semifinals.
