The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 season is less than two weeks away, but several teams are grappling with injury concerns to key players ahead of the tournament. While all 10 franchises have begun preparations for 19th edition of the tournament, doubts remain over the availability of some top names, including Australian pacers Pat Cummins and Josh Hazlewood, who have not featured in competitive cricket this year.

Cummins, Hazlewood Likely to Miss Early Matches

Sunrisers Hyderabad captain Pat Cummins is set to miss the initial matches of the season due to a lingering back issue. Cummins last played competitive cricket in December 2025. In his absence, Ishan Kishan will lead the side, with Abhishek Sharma appointed as vice-captain until Cummins returns.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru pacer Josh Hazlewood also faces uncertainty over his availability. The Australian quick, who was instrumental in RCB’s title-winning campaign, has been sidelined with injury and has not played since November 2025.

Rana Set to Miss Season

Kolkata Knight Riders are likely to be without Indian fast bowler Harshit Rana for most, if not all, of the season. Rana, who sustained an injury during India’s T20 World Cup warm-up match against South Africa in February, was recently seen on crutches, indicating a prolonged recovery period.

Sri Lankan Duo in Doubt

Sri Lankan fast bowler Matheesha Pathirana, signed by Kolkata Knight Riders for ₹18 crore, is also doubtful after suffering an injury during the T20 World Cup.

Lucknow Super Giants all-rounder Wanindu Hasaranga faces a similar situation, having picked up an injury during the global tournament. There is no official clarity yet on his availability for IPL 2026.

With the season fast approaching, franchises will closely monitor player fitness as they finalize their squads and combinations for the tournament.
