IPL 2026: Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have suffered a setback as Khaleel Ahmed has been ruled out of the remainder of Indian Premier League 2026 due to a right quadriceps injury. “The injury sustained will take more than 12 weeks to heal,” the franchise said in an official statement. The injury occurred during CSK’s match against Kolkata Knight Riders on April 14. Khaleel experienced discomfort in his right thigh while bowling and was unable to complete his over. His absence leaves a significant gap in Chennai’s pace attack, forcing the five-time champions to explore replacement options as the league enters a decisive phase.

Akash Madhwal

Akash Madhwal has emerged as a strong contender to replace Khaleel. The right-arm pacer made a mark during his stint with Mumbai Indians, particularly in IPL 2023, where he claimed 14 wickets in eight matches. His standout performance came in the Eliminator, where he produced figures of 5 for 5 — one of the best spells in IPL playoff history. Known for his yorkers and control in death overs, Madhwal remains an experienced option.

Simarjeet Singh

Simarjeet Singh is another viable option, bringing prior IPL experience and familiarity with high-pressure situations. The right-arm pacer is known for hitting hard lengths and generating bounce, making him effective during the middle overs. His experience and readiness could make him a practical choice if CSK prioritise an immediate replacement.

RS Ambrish

Another candidate is RS Ambrish, an emerging all-rounder yet to make his IPL debut. He has impressed in domestic cricket and age-group tournaments, and was part of the auction pool with a base price of INR 30 lakh. CSK, a franchise known for nurturing young talent, could view Ambrish as a long-term investment who also adds depth to both the bowling attack and lower-order batting.

Chetan Sakariya

Chetan Sakariya could be one of the most suitable replacements as a left-arm pacer. Having played for Rajasthan Royals, Delhi Capitals and Kolkata Knight Riders, he brings IPL experience and the ability to swing the new ball. With 20 IPL wickets to his name, Sakariya’s control and early-overs effectiveness make him a strong like-for-like option for Khaleel.

Rajvardhan Hangargekar

Rajvardhan Hangargekar, who has previously been part of the CSK setup, is also in contention. Known for his pace and aggressive bowling, he was picked by the franchise following his performances in the Under-19 World Cup. Although he featured in only two matches during IPL 2023, he has gained experience since, including a stint with Lucknow Super Giants in 2025. Having gone unsold in the IPL 2026 auction, he remains a viable domestic option.
