IPL 2026: Chennai Super Kings (CSK) fans will have to wait a little longer for MS Dhoni’s return as the veteran set to miss the upcoming Indian Premier League 2026 clash against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) despite travelling with the squad. Dhoni, who is yet to feature in the ongoing season, has joined the CSK camp in Hyderabad — a significant step forward after missing earlier away games in Bengaluru and Guwahati. However, he is still not match-ready.
According to reports, the decision to keep Dhoni out of the SRH game is precautionary. The 44-year-old is recovering from a calf injury sustained ahead of IPL 2026, which sidelined him for the initial phase of the tournament.
Dhoni has resumed light training sessions and has been batting in the nets, mostly facing throwdowns. However, he has not yet returned to full-intensity batting or wicketkeeping drills.
The franchise is unwilling to rush their former captain back into action, given his age and recurring lower-body issues. Team management is prioritising long-term fitness as CSK enter a crucial phase of the season.
If recovery progresses as planned, Dhoni is expected to return next week. The away fixture against Mumbai Indians (MI) on April 23 is being considered as a possible comeback game, while the home match against Gujarat Titans (GT) on April 26 is viewed as a more certain return window
