IPL 2026: Chennai Super Kings have suffered a setback as Khaleel Ahmed has been ruled out of the remainder of Indian Premier League 2026 due to a right quadriceps injury. “The injury sustained will take more than 12 weeks to heal,” the franchise said in an official statement.
The injury occurred during CSK’s match against Kolkata Knight Riders on April 14. Khaleel experienced discomfort in his right thigh while bowling and was unable to complete his over.
The development comes at a crucial stage of the season as CSK attempt to build momentum after a mixed start. The five-time champions began their campaign with three consecutive losses but bounced back with two wins to climb to eighth place in the standings.
Khaleel had been a crucial part of CSK’s pace attack this season, particularly in the powerplay, where he was relied upon to pick early wickets and control the flow of runs. He featured in all five matches for the side.
The left-arm seamer bowled 16.5 overs, conceding 146 runs and picking up two wickets in the ongoing season. While the numbers appear modest, his role in key phases of the game made him an important asset for the team.
Khaleel’s absence adds to Chennai’s bowling concerns. Nathan Ellis is currently unavailable due to injury, while Matt Henry has struggled for form. Spencer Johnson is yet to join the squad. Chennai could consider Mukesh Choudhary as a replacement if fit, while Ramakrishna Ghosh remains another option as a pace-bowling all-rounder
The team will next face Sunrisers Hyderabad on April 18 in Hyderabad, where the bowling combination is likely to be closely watched.
Adding to CSK’s concerns, veteran wicketkeeper-batter MS Dhoni is also not fully fit. The 44-year-old is expected to return for the high-profile clash against Mumbai Indians on April 23.
