Brevis had joined CSK last season as a replacement and impressed in limited appearances. He was expected to be part of the full squad this year but was unavailable at the start due to fitness issues.
The 22-year-old has been in good T20 form, scoring 370 runs in 12 innings in the SA20 earlier this year at a strike rate above 150, including a century in the final.
