IPL 2026: A physical altercation broke out among spectators during the Indian Premier League 2026 match between Lucknow Super Giants and Delhi Capitals at the Ekana Cricket Stadium on Wednesday, April 1, 2026. Videos shared on social media showed fans involved in a heated argument that escalated into a fight inside the stands. The cause of the altercation was not immediately clear. Police and stadium security personnel intervened and brought the situation under control.
On the field, Delhi Capitals defeated Lucknow Super Giants by chasing down a target of 142 with more than two overs to spare. Tristan Stubbs and Sameer Rizvi guided the chase after LSG were bowled out for 141.
The match also sparked debate over a tactical decision by LSG captain Rishabh Pant, who promoted himself to open the innings. Pant was run out early after a shot by Mitchell Marsh deflected off the bowler’s hand and hit the stumps at the non-striker’s end.
Former England cricketer Kevin Pietersen criticized the move, saying it put unnecessary pressure on Pant.
“I don’t think he needs to force himself into opening,” Pietersen said on the broadcast. “He should enjoy his natural position instead of adding pressure.”
Pant, who was signed by Lucknow for a record Rs 27 crore, struggled for consistency last season. He scored 269 runs in 13 matches at an average of 24.45, including one century that came after the team was out of playoff contention.
