The moment of brilliance came in the 17.3 over of Mumbai’s innings when Pandya attempted to clear the boundary. Stationed near the ropes, Iyer timed his leap perfectly and grabbed the ball mid-air, inches from stepping over the boundary. Showing remarkable awareness, he flicked the ball back into play while airborne, allowing teammate Xavier Bartlett to complete the catch.

The brilliance of the effort was also reflected in the reactions from the Mumbai dugout. Rohit Sharma, watching from close range, was left stunned with his jaw dropped, while Suryakumar Yadav’s expression mirrored disbelief.

Earlier, Quinton de Kock produced a superb unbeaten 112 off 60 balls to power Mumbai Indians to 195 for six after being put in to bat. De Kock anchored the innings with a 122-run partnership off 68 balls with Naman Dhir (50), followed by a 41-run stand with Pandya.

Punjab’s bowling effort was led by Arshdeep Singh, who claimed three wickets for 22 runs, while Shashank Singh chipped in with one.

In reply, Punjab Kings made light work of the chase, reaching 198 for three in just 16.3 overs. Prabhsimran Singh smashed an unbeaten 80 off 39 balls, while Iyer backed up his fielding heroics with a fluent 66 off 35 deliveries.

The duo shared a decisive 139-run partnership for the third wicket, taking the game away from Mumbai with aggressive strokeplay.

AM Ghazanfar was the pick of the Mumbai bowlers with figures of two for 31.

Brief scores: Mumbai Indians 195/6 in 20 overs (Quinton de Kock 112 not out; Arshdeep Singh 3/22). Punjab Kings 198/3 in 16.3 overs (Prabhsimran Singh 80 not out, Shreyas Iyer 66; AM Ghazanfar 2/31).
