Brevis has missed Chennai’s opening matches of the season due to a side injury sustained during training. The South African batter was ruled out of games against Rajasthan Royals and Punjab Kings, where the team suffered back-to-back defeats.

The coach had earlier confirmed that Brevis was undergoing rehabilitation after picking up the injury during a training session. “Brevis is out. He had a side injury during training. He is rehabbing. Hopefully, he won’t be out for too long,” Fleming said.

Brevis is considered a key player in Chennai’s lineup due to his ability to add firepower in the middle order. His absence has been felt as the team has struggled for consistency with the bat in the early part of the season.

The 22-year-old impressed in the previous edition after joining as an injury replacement, scoring 225 runs in six matches at a strike rate of 180. He was retained by the franchise ahead of IPL 2026.

Chennai is also dealing with the absence of MS Dhoni, who is recovering from a calf injury and has yet to feature this season.

With both players sidelined, Chennai will be hoping for Brevis’ return soon as it looks to turn around its campaign.
