The South African batter, who sustained the injury during training, is currently undergoing rehabilitation and has already missed the team’s opening matches of the season. CSK head coach Stephen Fleming had earlier confirmed that Brevis is progressing in his recovery but did not provide a specific timeline for his return.
“Brevis is out. He had a side injury during training. He is rehabbing. Hopefully, he won’t be out for too long,” Fleming said.
Brevis’ absence is a setback for Chennai, given his impact last season when he scored 225 runs in six matches at a strike rate of 180 after joining as an injury replacement. The team management has yet to confirm his match readiness, and he was not included in the playing XI for the clash against Bengaluru.
Meanwhile, Chennai Super Kings won the toss and elected to field. Both teams have fielded unchanged playing XIs for the contest.
