KKR captain Ajinkya Rahane confirmed at the toss that Chakaravarthy has not yet regained full fitness after sustaining the injury while attempting a catch in a previous match against Sunrisers Hyderabad.

“Varun is still recovering from his hand injury,” Rahane said, explaining the team’s decision to keep him out for a second consecutive match.

Chakravarthy had also missed KKR’s previous fixture, and although he returned to training ahead of the game, he remained under medical observation and was not cleared for selection.

Kolkata have adjusted their combination by bringing back Sunil Narine, who returns to the playing XI after missing the last match due to illness. The team has also opted for an additional batting option in Rovman Powell to strengthen the middle order.

Chakaravarthy’s absence comes at a crucial stage for Kolkata, who are still searching for their first win of the season after their previous match was washed out due to rain.
