IPL 2026, RCB vs MI Today Match: Virat Kohli did not take the field during the second innings of Royal Challengers Bengaluru’ clash against Mumbai Indians in Match 20 of the Indian Premier League 2026 at the Wankhede Stadium on Sunday, raising concerns among fans.

Kohli, who scored a composed 50 in the first innings, was seen sitting in the dugout after the break and did not take the field when Mumbai began their chase of a massive 241-run target.

The reason later emerged as an ankle injury sustained while batting. According to on-air commentary, Kohli experienced discomfort during his innings, and the team management opted not to risk him in the field as a precautionary measure.

Earlier, Kohli played a key role in RCB’s dominant batting display, stitching a 120-run opening stand with Phil Salt, who top-scored with a blistering 78. Captain Rajat Patidar added further impetus with a rapid 53, while Tim David finished strongly to lift RCB to 240/4.

Kohli’s absence on the field came as a precaution despite his importance to the side, especially in a high-scoring contest where fielding intensity can prove decisive.
