Former India cricketer Aakash Chopra revealed that the mystery spinner could be dealing with a hairline fracture in his left hand. The 34-year-old was seen bowling in the nets but reportedly continues to have his hand bandaged.
Chakravarthy has already missed KKR’s last two matches due to injury. Even before that, his form was underwhelming — he went wicketless in two games, conceding 79 runs in six overs.

“Varun Chakaravarthy has started bowling; that's good news, but his hand is still bandaged. Hairline fracture is what I have heard. He is from Chennai only. Even though his current form is not great, you feel he would do better if he plays. If he is available, you might see him playing in place of Anukul Roy,” speaking on his YouTube channel, Chopra said.
Despite the concerns, a KKR spokesperson struck a slightly positive note ahead of the match.
“So, Varun's been training. He's had a bandage on his hand, but he's still training. He's been training for all the days leading up to this match, so he's good,” the spokesperson said during the pre-match interaction.
As things stand, Chakravarthy’s participation will likely depend on a last-minute fitness assessment. While he has resumed bowling, the bandaged hand indicates that KKR’s think tank may take a cautious approach before risking their key spinner in a crucial encounter.
Meanwhile, KKR also face issues with overseas pacer Matheesha Pathirana, who, despite receiving fitness clearance, remains unavailable for selection against CSK.
Kolkata, led by Ajinkya Rahane, are yet to register a win this season and will be looking to turn their campaign around against Chennai, led by Ruturaj Gaikwad.
