IPL 2026: Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) batter Virat Kohli suffered a minor ankle injury during Match 20 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 against Mumbai Indians (MI) at the Wankhede Stadium on Sunday, April 12, 2026. Kohli, who scored 50 off 38 balls, looked in discomfort during the latter half of his innings. After a fluent start, the former India captain struggled with timing and managed just 30 runs off his final 27 deliveries before being dismissed by Hardik Pandya.

Concerns around Kohli’s fitness grew after he did not take the field during Mumbai Indians’ chase. He was rested as a precautionary measure, with a substitute fielder replacing him.

On-air commentary later confirmed that Kohli had sustained a lower ankle issue, though the exact extent of the injury was not immediately clear.

Despite the scare, the mood in the RCB camp remains positive. Captain Rajat Patidar offered a brief but reassuring update after the match, saying “I don’t know yet, but I feel he’s okay right now.”

All-rounder Krunal Pandya also expressed confidence about Kohli’s fitness. "I haven’t spoken to our physio yet, but I think Virat will be fine," Krunal added.

While the team is yet to provide a detailed medical update, the initial assessment suggests that the injury is not serious. Kohli is expected to be available for Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s upcoming matches, although the team may continue to monitor his workload.

Kohli has been in solid form this season, scoring 179 runs in four matches at an average close to 60. Any absence, even for a single game, would be a setback for the defending champions as they look to maintain momentum in the tournament.

RCB, currently placed third on the points table, will be hoping their star batter returns fully fit for their next outing.
