Ireland Cricket Team vs Zimbabwe National Cricket Team Standings: Zimbabwe have sealed a spot in the T20 World Cup 2026 Super 8s after their third group-stage match against Ireland was abandoned without a toss at the Pallekele International Stadium on Tuesday, February 17, 2026.  The washout gave both teams one point each, taking Zimbabwe to five points and ending Australia’s campaign. Even a win in their final group match would leave Australia, led by Mitchell Marsh, with only four points, below Zimbabwe and Sri Lanka, who have five and six points, respectively.

Ireland’s hopes of reaching the Super 8s also ended. After opening the tournament with two losses, they had beaten Oman by 96 runs in their third match but could not overcome Zimbabwe due to the abandoned game, finishing the group stage with three points.

Zimbabwe face a tough Super 8 group that includes defending champions India, 2024 runners-up South Africa, and two-time winners West Indies. The team will need to finish in the top two of the group to advance to the semi-finals.

Before the Super 8s, Zimbabwe will play co-hosts Sri Lanka in their final group match on Thursday.

Zimbabwe failed to qualify for the 2024 T20 World Cup but returned to the tournament by topping the Africa qualifiers. The team opened its campaign with an eight-wicket win over Oman and followed up with a 23-run victory over Australia to set up its qualification.
