IPL 2026: Royal Challengers Bengaluru may be without key fast bowler Josh Hazlewood for their first two matches of the 2026 Indian Premier League season due to ongoing fitness issues, according to a report by Cricbuzz. Hazlewood, who played a pivotal role in RCB’s title-winning campaign in 2025, is currently recovering from an Achilles injury along with a recurring hamstring strain. The Australia pacer has been under the supervision of Cricket Australia’s medical staff and has not yet been cleared to travel.
As a result, Hazlewood is expected to miss RCB’s opening fixtures against Sunrisers Hyderabad and Chennai Super Kings, forcing the franchise to reassess its bowling combination early in the season.
The 35-year-old was one of RCB’s standout performers last year, claiming 22 wickets in 12 matches at an average of 17.55. His ability to generate bounce and maintain accuracy made him a crucial component of the team’s pace attack, particularly in the powerplay and death overs. RCB management will now need to rely on its bench strength and explore alternative bowling options for the opening games while awaiting clarity on Hazlewood’s return.
