Mumbai Indians won the toss and opted to bowl in the 16th match of the 2025 Indian Premier League against Lucknow Super Giants at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow. Mumbai Indians have made two changes to their playing XI. Will Jacks replaces Sharma, while Raj Angad Bawa makes his debut in place of Mujeeb Ur Rahman. Sharma has played three matches this season, scoring 20 runs while opening the innings. In the last two games, he was used as an Impact Player. Both teams come into the contest with mixed form. LSG, who were defeated by Punjab Kings in their previous match, will aim to bounce back. Meanwhile, MI earned their first win of the season under Hardik Pandya, defeating defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at Wankhede Stadium.
Hardik Pandya explained the decision, saying, "We are gonna bowl first. Looks like a fresh wicket. Not sure how it is going to play. Looks a decent track. Dew might come in later. Thought better to chase. I think we in a group have spoken that we don’t want to talk about the wickets. We are here to play good cricket. That’s the talk we have. Let’s not talk about the surfaces. I think adaptation."
Rishabh Pant expressed confidence in his batting unit, saying, "I think we are pretty confident as a batting unit. We are a strong unit. A few players, including myself, haven't come off. We are talking about playing this way throughout the tournament. The idea is to go out and express ourselves."
