Mumbai Indians won the toss and chose to bowl first against Chennai Super Kings in the 38th match of the Indian Premier League 2025 at the Wankhede Stadium on Sunday. Chennai Super Kings made one change to their playing eleven with Ayush Mhatre replacing Rahul Tripathi. Mumbai Indians fielded an unchanged side from their previous game.
CSK captain MS Dhoni said the team was also looking to bowl first due to the early onset of dew. “We are at the bottom of the table, so we need to focus on one game at a time. We want to play bold cricket but also ensure batters and bowlers understand their strengths,” Dhoni said. He also stressed the need for better fielding and building partnerships in both departments.
MI captain Hardik Pandya said the pitch had a good grass covering and was expected to be a good batting surface. “It’s the same wicket we played on against RCB. We have not played to our potential yet, but every game is a new opportunity,” Pandya said. He also praised Dhoni and the thrill of a CSK vs MI clash.
Both teams will look to continue their momentum after securing wins in their previous outings. Mumbai Indians have bounced back with two straight victories following a poor start to the season. The five-time champions recently cruised to a comfortable chase against Sunrisers Hyderabad and appear to be regaining form under captain Hardik Pandya. Chennai Super Kings, on the other hand, snapped a five-match losing streak with a narrow win over Lucknow Super Giants. A vintage finish by MS Dhoni sealed the much-needed victory for the defending champions, who will hope to revive their campaign.
