IPL 2026, MI vs SRH Today Match: Former Mumbai Indians captain Rohit Sharma remains doubtful for match 41 of the Indian Premier League 2026 against Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Wednesday, April 29, 2026. The veteran opener has been sidelined since April 12 after suffering a hamstring injury during Mumbai’s home defeat to Royal Challengers Bengaluru.
A team spokesperson confirmed that the 39-year-old is progressing in his recovery and a final decision on his availability to be taken at the toss. “He continues to progress. Any call on his availability (in the game versus SRH) would be taken at the toss tomorrow,” the MI spokesperson said as quoted by RevSportz.
While there has been steady progress in his recovery, the team management is yet to confirm his return to the playing XI.
In his absence, Mumbai have struggled to find stability at the top of the order. The team has rotated options including Quinton de Kock, Ryan Rickelton and Danish Malewar, but none have been able to provide consistency. His return is expected to bolster Mumbai’s batting unit as the five-time champions look to revive their campaign.
There is a possibility that he could be used as an Impact Player if declared fit, allowing him to contribute with the bat without fielding duties.
Despite missing recent games, Rohit remains Mumbai’s fourth-leading run-scorer this season, with 137 runs at an average of 45.66 and a strike rate of 165.06. He also became the first player to score 6,000 runs for the franchise.
Led by Hardik Pandya, Mumbai Indians are under pressure to revive their campaign after a string of inconsistent performances, including a heavy defeat to Chennai Super Kings in their previous outing.
Sunrisers Hyderabad, meanwhile, have been one of the most consistent teams this season, with strong performances in both batting and bowling departments, led by Pat Cummins.
As things stand, Rohit’s availability remains uncertain, and a final decision on his participation is expected to be made at the toss.
