Sri Lanka National Cricket Team vs New Zealand National Cricket Team Match Record: New Zealand captain Mitchell Santner became the first player from his country to score 1,000 runs and take 100 wickets in men’s Twenty20 internationals on Wednesday, February 25, 2026. Santner reached the milestone during New Zealand’s ICC T20 World Cup Super 8 match against Sri Lanka at R. Premadasa Stadium. The left-arm spin-bowling allrounder needed 26 runs to complete 1,000 T20I runs and achieved the mark with a brisk 47 off 26 balls.
He now has 1,021 runs and 136 wickets in 132 T20Is. Santner had previously crossed the 100-wicket mark and is now the sixth cricketer from ICC full-member nations to achieve the double of 1,000 runs and 100 wickets in the format.
Bangladesh’s Shakib Al Hasan was the first player overall to reach the milestone. He finished his T20I career with 2,551 runs and 149 wickets in 129 matches. He was followed by Afghanistan’s Mohammad Nabi, Zimbabwe’s Sikandar Raza and India’s Hardik Pandya. Pakistan’s Shadab Khan joined the list Tuesday during the T20 World Cup Super 8 match against England in Pallekele.
Santner’s landmark came in a crucial rescue effort for New Zealand. The team was struggling at 84-6 before he combined with Cole McConchie for an 84-run partnership off 47 balls for the seventh wicket. The stand lifted New Zealand to 168-7 in 20 overs.
Santner struck two fours and four sixes before being dismissed on the final ball of the innings. McConchie remained unbeaten on 31 off 23 balls.
The 84-run stand set a new record for the highest seventh-wicket partnership in a T20 World Cup match, surpassing the previous mark of 74 runs set by Australia’s Michael Hussey and Steve Smith against Bangladesh at Kensington Oval in Bridgetown in 2010.
