India National Cricket Team vs Zimbabwe National Cricket Team Standings: Former Pakistan fast bowler Mohammad Amir has predicted that India will fail to qualify for the semi-finals of the ICC T20 World Cup 2026. Speaking on a Pakistani television show, Mohammad Amir said India would fail to reach the semifinals. The left-arm pacer backed India to win their must-win clash against Zimbabwe but maintained that they would still fall short of qualifying for the final four. He declined to predict the outcome of the West Indies vs. South Africa match, saying both teams were among his favorites.

Amir had earlier indicated that India might struggle to qualify and has now repeated that view as the tournament enters a decisive stage.

India, led by Suryakumar Yadav, will face Zimbabwe on February 26 at the M. A. Chidambaram Stadium. The match is crucial after India suffered a 76-run defeat to South Africa in their opening Super Eight fixture.

Group situation

West Indies and South Africa both have two points from one match. West Indies top the group with a net run rate of plus 5.350, followed by South Africa at plus 3.800. India and Zimbabwe are yet to earn a point. India’s net run rate stands at minus 3.800, while Zimbabwe’s is minus 5.350.

Qualification scenarios

India can still qualify for the semi-finals if they defeat both Zimbabwe and West Indies, provided South Africa also win their remaining matches against West Indies and Zimbabwe.

If India beat Zimbabwe and West Indies defeat South Africa, the equation becomes tougher. India would then need a big win over West Indies and favourable results in the South Africa-Zimbabwe match to improve their net run rate position.

If Zimbabwe upset India, the situation would become extremely difficult. India would then need South Africa to win both their remaining games and would have to secure a large-margin victory over West Indies, with qualification likely to be decided by net run rate.

With the group standings finely balanced, Thursday’s matches are expected to play a decisive role in determining the semi-finalists.
