Pakistan National Cricket Team vs Bangladesh National Cricket Team Match: Former Pakistan cricketer Ahmed Shehzad launched a scathing criticism of wicketkeeper-batter Mohammad Rizwan after Pakistan’s humiliating defeat against Bangladesh national cricket team in the first ODI in Dhaka on Wednesday, March 11, 2026. Pakistan were bowled out for just 114 runs after opting to bat first at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium. Bangladesh chased down the 115-run target comfortably, reaching the total in just 15.1 overs to take a 1–0 lead in the three-match series with a dominant victory.

Bangladesh pacer Nahid Rana produced a sensational spell, taking five wickets for 24 runs in seven overs to dismantle Pakistan’s batting lineup. Fellow pacers Taskin Ahmed and Mustafizur Rahman also contributed with a wicket each as Bangladesh’s seam attack exposed Pakistan’s vulnerability against pace bowling.

Pakistan opener Sahibzada Farhan began the innings positively, but the batting order collapsed soon after Rana was introduced into the attack. Rizwan, one of Pakistan’s senior batters in the lineup, failed to anchor the innings when the team needed stability. Batting at No. 4, he managed only 10 runs from 20 deliveries before being dismissed by Rana.

Following the defeat, Shehzad criticised Rizwan’s batting technique against fast bowlers, claiming the wicketkeeper-batter had not improved despite repeated dismissals in similar fashion.

“He is getting out in the same way every time. The way he was getting out in the New Zealand series, it was the same today,” Shehzad said. Mocking Rizwan’s approach against pace, Shehzad added that it appeared more like a dance than proper batting technique. “Jaise hi koi tez bowler aata hai, thumke maarne lag jaate hain. Koi technique hi nahin hai unki,” Shehzad said, which translates to, “The moment a fast bowler comes to bowl, he starts dancing. There is no technique.”

The match marked Pakistan’s first international assignment after its disappointing campaign at the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, where the team was eliminated in the Super Eights stage. For the Bangladesh tour, selectors rested several senior players, including Babar Azam, and handed debuts to four players in the opening ODI.

Pakistan captain Shaheen Shah Afridi defended the squad after the loss, describing it as a developing side that would improve with experience. “I feel this is a young team and I’ll back this team till the end,” Afridi said at the post-match presentation. “In one-day cricket you need partnerships in both batting and bowling. There are two games left and we will focus on the next one.”

Shehzad, however, dismissed the idea that Pakistan’s defeat could be attributed to a young lineup. Speaking on his YouTube channel, the former batter pointed out that several experienced players were part of the squad.

“Tell me, are Faheem Ashraf, Sahibzada Farhan, Shaheen Shah Afridi, Mohammad Rizwan, Mohammad Wasim Jr and Abrar Ahmed youngsters?” Shehzad said. “The truth is that a few youngsters are being used as an excuse.”
