The Pakistan cricket team has drawn attention once again, this time over an alleged incident involving misconduct during the ICC T20 World Cup 2026 in Sri Lanka. According to a report by Telecom Asia Sport, a Pakistan team member was fined for misbehaving with a female hotel staff member in Kandy, Sri Lanka. The report comes shortly after Pakistan’s exit from the tournament following their failure to progress beyond the Super 8 stage.

The incident reportedly took place before Pakistan’s final Super 8 match against Sri Lanka. The player is said to have behaved inappropriately with a female housekeeping staff member at the hotel. She raised an alarm immediately, prompting hotel staff to intervene. Team manager Naved Cheema was informed, and senior officials at the Golden Crown Hotel reportedly demanded strict action. Cheema apologised to the hotel management and imposed a fine on the player for indiscipline, which settled the issue at the time.

The identity of the cricketer has not been disclosed, and the matter may not be closed yet. The player is expected to appear before the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) after returning home and could face further disciplinary action. Pakistan’s squad members travelled back in separate batches on March 1st and 2nd.

The incident adds to concerns about off-field behaviour during overseas tours. Last year, young batsman Haider Ali was arrested by Greater Manchester Police on rape charges during the Pakistan Shaheens’ tour of England, though he was later released due to lack of evidence. In another past incident, team masseur Malang Ali was reported and fined for inappropriate conduct with a female staff member during the Malaysia tour.
