Pakistan Qualification Scenario for Semi Final: Pakistan national cricket team gave itself a strong chance of making a late push for the semifinals of the ICC T20 World Cup after posting 212 for eight against Sri Lanka national cricket team in Super 8 Group 2 match at Pallekele International Cricket Stadium on Saturday, February 28, 2026.
Batting first, Pakistan looked set for a much bigger total after a record stand between Sahibzada Farhan and Fakhar Zaman. The pair stitched together the highest partnership in T20 World Cup history and put Sri Lanka under pressure in the middle overs.
At one stage, Pakistan appeared on course to reach close to 240. However, a series of wickets in the death overs pulled things back for Sri Lanka, who managed to restrict the total to 212 for eight.
With England already through to the semifinals from Group 2, Pakistan need a comprehensive win to move past New Zealand on net run rate and claim the second semifinal spot.
Pakistan must restrict Sri Lanka to 147 or lower to achieve the required net run rate boost. A victory margin of 65 runs or more will take Pakistan ahead of New Zealand and send them into the last four.
The result of the chase will now decide whether Pakistan can complete a late surge into the semifinals.
