PSL 2026: Strong winds and heavy rain created chaotic scenes at Gaddafi Stadium on Tuesday, forcing the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2026 match between Islamabad United and Peshawar Zalmi to be abandoned without a toss. Powerful gusts sweeping across the ground made it extremely difficult for ground staff to manage the pitch covers, with several members nearly swept off their feet while attempting to secure them. In dramatic visuals that quickly went viral on social media, covers were seen lifting and flying across the field as staff struggled to keep them in place. At least two ground workers lost their balance and fell while trying to hold down the covers, highlighting the severity of the conditions.

The match, scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. local time, never got underway as persistent rain left the outfield unplayable. Ground crews were seen making repeated efforts to secure the covers and prepare the surface despite worsening weather. The strong winds made it nearly impossible to manage the covers, with visuals showing them flapping violently before being carried across the ground.
Umpires Ahsan Raza and Asif Yaqoob had initially expressed optimism about the possibility of a shortened game.
“The ground staff are working very hard using manual super soppers to dry the main areas, especially where there are puddles,” they said. “We are hopeful that at least a five-over game could be possible, depending on improvement in conditions.”
However, continued rainfall and unsafe conditions ultimately forced officials to abandon the match without the toss. Both Islamabad United and Peshawar Zalmi were awarded one point each as the game ended in a no result.
