The Punjab Kings (PBKS) are gearing up for the 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL) auction with notable adjustments to their coaching and support lineup, under the guidance of their newly appointed head coach, Ricky Ponting. The franchise has retained key members and welcomed new additions, emphasizing a balanced and strategic coaching team.
Former Australian all-rounder James Hopes joins PBKS from the Delhi Capitals (DC), where he was offered an extension following Ponting's departure. However, Hopes opted to reunite with his former captain in Punjab. His inclusion signals the exit of Charl Langeveldt, the South African pacer who served as PBKS’s fast-bowling coach under Trevor Bayliss in the 2023 and 2024 seasons. Langeveldt also previously held the role in the 2020 season.
Ponting has chosen to retain Brad Haddin, who has been an assistant coach with PBKS for several seasons. Originally recruited by ex-coach Bayliss, Haddin, an Australian, will continue focusing on the team’s batting and wicket-keeping skills. Sunil Joshi, former Indian spinner and ex-chief selector, will also remain with PBKS, having worked with the franchise for the past two seasons as a spin-bowling coach.
As part of the reshuffle, Sanjay Bangar’s role as head of cricket development has come to an end, concluding his three-year contract early. Meanwhile, the core fitness team, including strength and conditioning coach Adrian le Roux and physio Andrew Leipus, will stay with the Punjab Kings, ensuring continuity in player fitness and health management.
