India National Cricket Team vs Zimbabwe National Cricket Team: Former India off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has dismissed comments made by former Pakistan pacer Mohammad Amir on Abhishek Sharma’s batting style, saying the young opener is not a “slogger” but a batter with one of the best bat swings in the game. Amir had labelled Abhishek Sharma a slogger and refused to call him a pure batter. Responding through his YouTube channel ‘Ash Ki Baat’, Ashwin said the left-hander’s bat swing is even better than that of his mentor Yuvraj Singh.

“There is a video of Mohammad Amir doing the rounds, where he called Abhishek Sharma a slogger. I just want to make one thing clear, you can say anything about his game, but he is not a slogger. He has one of the most enviable bat swings in the game today. We all know Yuvraj Singh is his mentor,” Ashwin said on his YouTube channel ‘Ash Ki Baat’.

“He has probably got a better bat swing than him as well. You cannot get a better bat swing than that. Whenever Abhishek strikes the ball, it goes very far. So people can mistake him for being a slogger. The one thing Abhishek has been guilty of is showing intent on every ball,” he added.

The remarks came after India registered a crucial 72-run win over Zimbabwe in their Super Eight match of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup at the M. A. Chidambaram Stadium on Thursday February 26, 2026.

India posted 256 in the first innings. Abhishek Sharma scored 55 off 30 balls, including four fours and four sixes. The knock marked a strong comeback for the 23-year-old opener, who registered three successive ducks in the group stage.

The victory kept India’s semi-final hopes alive and also helped Abhishek end his run drought in the tournament.

India will now face West Indies in a must-win clash as they look to seal a place in the semi-finals of the tournament.
