India National Cricket Team vs Zimbabwe National Cricket Team Match: India batter Rinku Singh has returned home due to a family emergency and is doubtful for India’s next ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026 Super 8 match against Zimbabwe in Chennai on Thursday, February 26, 2026. According to an NDTV report, Rinku’s father is suffering from stage-4 liver cancer and is currently on ventilator support.

The batter had travelled to Chennai with the team but departed for home on Tuesday morning. He was also absent from India’s training session at the MA Chidambaram Stadium on Tuesday evening, while the rest of the squad trained in the nets. The Board of Control for Cricket in India has not issued an official statement, but it is learnt that the left-hander has left the city to be with his family.

Rinku has struggled for form in the tournament. He scored 6, 1, 11 not out and 6 not out in the group stage, and was dismissed for a duck in India’s 76-run loss to South Africa in Ahmedabad.

If Rinku is unavailable, India could turn to Sanju Samson or Axar Patel. Bringing in Samson may require changes to the batting order, while Axar could fit into the No. 8 role that Rinku occupied in the previous match.

After facing Zimbabwe, India will play West Indies in their final Super Eight match on March 1 in Kolkata. If India advance to the semifinals, the match is scheduled for March 5 in Mumbai. However, if the opponent is Pakistan, the semifinal will be held on March 4 in Colombo.
