IPL 2026, LSG vs DC: Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) owner Sanjiv Goenka was seen in an animated discussion with captain Rishabh Pant and team staff following the side’s six-wicket defeat to Delhi Capitals in Match 5 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow on Wednesday, April 1, 2026. The interaction, which also involved head coach Justin Langer and team director Tom Moody, took place on the field after the match. The nature of the conversation was not known.
Hours later, Goenka issued a public statement backing Pant and the team. "This is a long season, and moments like these are part of building something meaningful. I have full confidence in our captain and the team to respond with strength. To our fans, thank you for your support at Ekana today, we will come back stronger. The story of @LucknowIPL this season is far from written," Mr Goenka wrote.
This is not the first time Mr Goenka has been seen in such post-match interactions. A similar incident in 2024 involving former captain KL Rahul had drawn attention after visuals of their exchange went viral.
Delhi Capitals chased down a target of 142 with ease despite being reduced to 26 for four. Sameer Rizvi led the recovery with an unbeaten 70, sharing a match-winning partnership with Tristan Stubbs to guide the team home with 17 balls to spare.
Earlier, Lucknow Super Giants were bowled out for 141, with Mitchell Marsh scoring 35 and Abdul Samad contributing 36. Lungi Ngidi and T Natarajan took three wickets each for Delhi.
Lucknow Super Giants will look to regroup after the defeat, while Delhi Capitals aim to build on their winning start.
