West Indies Cricket Team vs India National Cricket Team: Sanju Samson etched his name in the record books on March 1 with a blistering unbeaten 97 to power the India national cricket team into the semi-finals of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026. The 31-year-old wicketkeeper-batter struck 97 off 50 balls in India’s successful chase of 196 against the West Indies cricket team at Eden Gardens. His innings, which included 12 fours and four sixes, is now the highest score by an Indian batter in a run chase in T20 World Cup history.

Samson went past Virat Kohli’s unbeaten 82 off 51 balls against Australia in Mohali on March 27, 2016. Kohli had also made 82 not out against Pakistan at the Melbourne Cricket Ground during the 2022 edition.

The 97 not out also moved Samson to second place on the list of highest individual scores by an Indian in a T20 World Cup match. The record remains with Suresh Raina, who scored 101 off 60 balls against South Africa in Gros Islet in 2010.

Other notable entries on the list include Rohit Sharma’s 92 against Australia in 2024 and 79 not out against Australia in 2010, as well as multiple high scores by Kohli across editions.

Samson’s match-winning effort helped India chase down 196 in 19.2 overs and seal a semi-final berth in the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026. India will face the England national cricket team in the second semi-final at Wankhede Stadium on March 5.
