India vs New Zealand, T20 World Cup 2026 Final: Sanju Samson became the highest-scoring Indian in a single edition of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup during the 2026 final against the New Zealand national cricket team at the Narendra Modi Stadium on Sunday, March 8, 2026. The Indian opener surpassed the previous record held by Virat Kohli, who had scored 319 runs during the 2014 edition of the tournament.
Samson achieved the milestone with a fluent knock of 89 in the final, finishing the 2026 campaign with 321 runs from five innings at an average of 80.25.
The impressive performance capped a remarkable tournament for the right-handed batter, who consistently delivered at the top of the order for the India national cricket team.
Teammate Ishan Kishan also featured among the leading run-scorers of the tournament. Kishan, who scored a half-century in the final, ended the competition with 317 runs to move into the top five for most runs by an Indian in a single T20 World Cup edition.
Before Samson’s record-breaking effort, Kohli dominated the list with three of the top performances by an Indian batter in the tournament, including 319 runs in 2014, 296 runs in 2022 and 273 runs in 2016.
